The 8 Evidence Points You Must Photograph on a Factory Visit — Anything Else Is a Tour
A factory tour in China is a performance. The supplier takes you down the cleanest aisle, shows you the newest line, and introduces you to the smiling QC manager. You leave with a good feeling — but no evidence you can use later when the first shipment arrives with substituted cells.
If you are flying to China, do not leave the plant without capturing these 8 evidence points on timestamped photos or video.
1. Production line serial + current order
A photo of the line running, with the order number or a customer name visible on the work order board. Proves they actually run your model, not just any model.
2. Cell / BMS brand marking on the line
Close-up of the cells going into the pack, with the cell brand label visible. This is the single most substituted component in battery sourcing.
3. QC test equipment serial + calibration sticker
The Hi-pot tester, IP tester, cell sorter. A calibration sticker with a recent date means the equipment is actually maintained, not decorative.
4. Incoming material area
Where components arrive. If you see only unlabeled cardboard boxes, you are looking at a trader's warehouse, not a factory.
5. Aging / burn-in room
For batteries, this is non-negotiable. A factory without a burn-in rack is assembling packs, not testing them.
6. Finished goods warehouse with pallet labels
The SKU, batch number, destination country on the pallet tag. Proves the product is built to spec, not repackaged.
7. Worker ID badges + shift roster
Not for HR — for proving the line is staffed by real employees, not agency temps flown in for the visit.
8. Exit gate + loading dock
Proof that the goods leave from this address, not from a different warehouse 100 km away.
If they refuse any of the 8
That is data. Write it down. You just saved yourself from a year of warranty claims.
Use this as a procurement framework, not as legal, tax or technical advice. Capture each point in writing and timestamp it.
